Gamification
Gamification is the application of typical elements of game playing (e.g. point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity, typically as an online marketing technique to encourage engagement with a product or service.
Goals
Find a way to motivate users to leave reviews
Increase sales
increase brand and community
Challenges
Gamification
Gamification is an excellent way to make users more invested in a platform and is done very often; however, creating a system that goes beyond points badges and a leaderboard is how you make your system stand out.
Motivation (Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic)
Studies have shown users that intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are good ways to engage users. The issue with extrinsic rewards like coupons or free items is that studies have also shown that as soon as these rewards go away, so do the users. Therefore, my next challenge was creating a gamified system that uses intrinsic motivation so users would want to return to the site because that is their desire.
Quality review
Terrain is seeking more reviews, but we want to allow just any reviews. They need to be relevant and have valuable information that other users could view to help inform their future purchases as well
Know Your Users
Terrain is a luxury gardening company that supplies its users with a wide variety of landscaping tools and furniture at a that are premium price.
